Experience the rich history of Dubai by taking the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood Tour, which will take you right into the heart of the city. This neighborhood, which is close to the Creek in Bur Dubai, was developed in the late 1800s by Persian businessmen from Bastak, Iran. To stay cool in the scorching desert, they built wind-tower homes. The area soon developed into a major trading center, particularly for pearls, spices, and textiles. The Dubai Municipality restored the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, which is now a bustling cultural destination with museums, galleries, and quaint cafes to explore. It provides you with an insight into Dubai’s past and early inhabitants’ way of life, and it has been accessible to the public since 2009. Although it took years to restore, the work has kept this lovely place intact for everyone to enjoy.
Originally constructed to give merchants places to live and work, the neighborhood is now a living example of the past. Take a stroll down tiny roads, stop at the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House—once the residence of Dubai’s rulers—and take in the ambiance of bygone days.

In this piece, we’ll talk about Dubai’s Old City, especially its walls and construction, which are distinctive in themselves and very different from those of modern-day Dubai. Our goal is to cover all aspects of Old Dubai. Our first stop will be Al Fahidi, which offers us a look into Dubai’s past, in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood. Old structures like the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, a former royal home, may be seen here. It functions as a museum today, showcasing old pictures and records. This former home has been renovated to become a cafe, gallery, and museum hub.
We then go to the Dubai Museum, which was once the Al Fahidi Fort. Discover more about Dubai’s fascinating past here, which includes the period when pearl diving was a significant business and the foundation of the UAE’s economy. Due to Dubai’s liberal trade regulations, Iranian traders were drawn to the city in the 19th century, which resulted in the growth of industries like textiles.
The museum displays the way that Arabs used to live in the desert, building sturdy, insulated dwellings out of goat hair. The falcon, the UAE’s national bird, is also highlighted. Adding two camels to the show would complete the sensation of being in the desert.
In the 19th century, trade was booming in Dubai Creek, which was formerly regarded as the hub of the city’s economy. For up to six months at a time, Iranian traders would travel here to do business. Using materials like coral, mud, teak wood, and palm leaves, these traders skillfully constructed their dwellings to stay cool from March to September, when diving is most popular. In an inventive attempt to create natural air cooling, they also erected four wind towers to pull in hot air and out cool air.
At Al Fahidi, the traditional diving boat known as a dhow is on display at the Dubai Museum. Since there was no diving equipment available at the time, divers would use a turtle shell clip to cover their nostrils while submerged and would use a method known as “air lock” to halt their breathing. They would have lots of dates and coffee before leaving. In Dubai today, the pairing of coffee and dates is highly popular. There are places reserved for the enjoyment of men and women, as well as seating spaces where you may unwind and enjoy a quiet evening under the refreshing breeze. This historical site offers information about the marketplaces, classic Dubai residences, and the city’s rich cultural legacy.
